ROCKLEIGH - Trevor Randolph is the first Bergen County resident in 15 years to win the Bergen County Amateur Championship. The Franklin Lakes resident tapped in for par on the 18th hole at Rockleigh Golf Course this evening to finish one stroke ahead of the 2007 winner, Bridgewater’s Brian Komline. Randolph, 42, shot 3-under 68 during the morning shotgun to take a one-stroke lead, and he carded 70 in the second round to become the first Bergen resident to win since Glen Rock’s Ken Macdonald in 2000. “I’m extremely happy,” said Randolph, a two-time New Jersey Mid-Amateur champion. “There’s been really good winners the past few years,” he said, adding, “It’s quality guys that win the event, it’s an end-of-the-season tournament, so everyone is racing for points [in the standings for MGA Player of Year.”] New York teen Cameron Young is the runaway leader in the MGA points race, while Randolph and Komline are among four from the Garden State ranked in the top 10. Komline, 41, a two-time New Jersey Open champion, closed with 68 and just missed a 25-foot birdie putt on his final hole that would have forced the first playoff in more than a decade. Another New Jersey Mid-Amateur standout, Darin Goldenstein, finished third after shooting 69 for 142. Woolwich Township’s Matt Finger, runner-up at Thursday’s 32nd New Jersey Mid-Amateur, tied for fourth at 144 with Oradell’s Thomas Barnes and three others. Finger closed with 70 and Barnes 72.
