BEDMINSTER – Connecticut’s Mike Ballo Jr. has grabbed a share of the lead midway through today’s afternoon wave of the second round of the 99th MGA Open Championship.
Ballo, 25, shot 5-under 67 on the Old Course at Trump National GC, and his 6-under 138 places him in a tie with New York club pro Grant Sturgeon. Ballo had seven birdies and two bogeys.
“I played a great round today. I was in total control of my game,” said Ballo, who plays out of Woodway and tied for second at the 2012 MGA Open at Plainfield. “I capitalized on some chances I had, played the par-5s well [at 3-under], and I was in total control.”
